TNT Racers Set Personal Bests at North Bay Nordic Five TNT racers and one younger Track Attack skier competed in a one-day, free-technique, race event at North Bay Nordic Ski Club on Saturday, January 21. For many of the younger skiers, this was their first race of the season and also an opportunity to compare their progress against previous efforts on the same course one year earlier. Finishing in first place in the Midget Girls’ category, 12-year-old TNT racer Hannah Story-Korman, cut an impressive one-minute off her 3-km time compared to her 2011 effort (11:37 versus 12:37). TNT’s Jena Ashley finished in third place in the Midget Girls’ category with a solid time of 13 minutes and 23 seconds (Jena did not compete in the event in 2011 and therefore does not have a comparison time on the course). Thirteen-year-old TNT racer Sheldon Flannigan had a very solid seventh-place finish in the competitive field of thirteen Midget Boys. Compared to his time on the 3-km course in 2011, Sheldon sped up by a massive four-minutes and 45-seconds (12:33 in 2012 compared to 17:19 in 2011). In the 11-and-under boys’ category, 8-year-old Temiskaming Track Attack racer Isaac Story-Korman pulled out a tight 9-second win over North Bay’s Eric Koski-Harja. Isaac’s time was 5 minutes and 58 seconds for his 1.3-km course. Twelve-year-old TNT para-nordic racer Caelan Flannigan completed the same 1.3-km course on his sit-ski in a time of 12 minutes and 34 seconds. Caelan reduced his time by an impressive six minutes and twenty-four seconds compared to his performance on the 1.3-km course in 2011. TNT’s Aura Margison covered double duties as both a coach and racer on Saturday. After escorting Caelan around his sit-ski course, both on a training run and in the actual race, Aura completed her 10-km free technique race, finishing with a solid time of fifty minutes and 32 seconds. Erik Margison also competed in the 10-km men’s event, but was unable to complete the distance due to back pain. The next events for TNT will be the Eastern Canadian
Championships near Ottawa
on February 4-5, as well as the Temiskaming Nordic Family Sprint Relays and
Loppet on February 11-12. Temiskaming
Nordic Team thanks its team sponsors Active 1 Source for Sports, The Running
Link, and Wilderness Dreams Outdoor Adventure Store, as well as the many
volunteers who maintain the excellent facilities at the Temiskaming Nordic Ski
Club.
